Philips taken to court over Agent Orange claims worth 1 bln eur[05-03-2007] AMSTERDAM, Mar. 5, 2007 (AFX International Focus) -- Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE:PHG) NV is being sued by a group of insurers for allegedly withholding information over the effects of Agent Orange, a chemical produced by Philips during and after the Vietnam War, De Telegraaf reported. The claim by Winterthur, Axa (NYSE:AXA) and other insurers could - if upheld - lead to claims worth around 1 bln eur, the Dutch daily quoted people with knowledge of the situation as saying. Philips remained silent about damages claims filed by victims of the chemical, the insurance groups claim, adding that would never have insured the company had they known about these claims. Philips was not immediately available for comment. |
