Nephew is victim of agent orange
During the Vietnam War a herbicide known as Agent Orange was used to spray plants and weeds to kill and prevent their growth. When the Vietnam veterans started coming down with all kinds of health problems, they were linked to Agent Orange. The government denied any knowledge of Agent Orange.
My nephew served in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968. He was a Marine and served proudly and honorably. He was wounded and received a Purple Heart. When his tour was over he came home and returned to college. He then attended law school and graduated with honors. He became a successful attorney.
A couple of months ago he went for his two-year checkup. He had leukemia. More tests found three more cancers. He has to have three sessions of chemotherapy for three weeks at a time. When his chemo sessions are done they will check to see if they have killed enough cancer cells to have a bone marrow transplant. The U.S. government admits that his illnesses are Agent Orange related. If they had done so in the late '60s and early '70s, many live might have been saved. There are a number of cases of illnesses in Wayne County tied to the same herbicide. It does little good for them to admit it after the fact.
In 1984, Vietnam veterans settled a class-action suit against seven chemical companies.
Too little, too late.

VERSION FRANCAISE
